Discipline

“You must have discipline to have fun.”
~Julia Child

Discipline.

A dirty word?

Does it mean getting in trouble or being reprimanded?

No!

Thr true definition of discipline is more along the lines of, “The bridge between thought and action.”

It is self discipline that makes the difference between the winners and losers in this world.

The discipline to begin and follow through with your dreams is mandatory for happiness and success in any venture. It matters little if it is a personal or business matter. The ability to focus your mind and energy on the task at hand is priceless.

What will you do right now to get closer to your goals?

Then, what will you do consistently to ensure your success?

No One Else But You

“None will improve your lot If you yourself do not.”
~Bertolt Brecht, 1933

Are you waiting for the government to help you out? Maybe a friend or family member perhaps?

Well, stop waiting and start doing.

It is your responsibility to help yourself out. No one else’s.

If you want things to improve you must improve. If you are happy with how things are then you must make sure to do the things that you have done in the past to keep them that way.

All we get is an opportunity. That is all we really need.

We don’t get a level playing field. Life isn’t “fair” and we certainly are not entitled to anything other than opportunity.

It is up to you to take that opportunity and run with it.

Your Discomfort Zone

“If you feel that you were off to a good start but are currently stalled, you need to admit to yourself that you have probably slipped back into your comfort zone.

More than likely you have been deceiving yourself that you are making progress, but at the same time you are really not getting anywhere.

What you need to do is take action. Even if it is a very small action.

Nothing you can tell yourself, nothing you can say to others.
Nothing you can think or feel or imagine is going to get you out of the mental bog you’re mired in.

The only thing that can rescue you is – to take that next step.

Maybe you know what that is. If you know exactly what it is,

DO IT!

If you don’t know, or aren’t sure, allow you intuition to guide you. Do whatever you feel compelled to do, but do it NOW to get yourself going again — even if it means entering. . .

. . . your discomfort zone.

Creating The Path

Here’s a beautiful quote for today:

“As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.”
— Henry David Thoreau

The right way of thinking and not giving up, trying over and over again, will pave your way to success. You have to believe in yourself. If you think you can, you can’t. And if you think you can’t, you’re right, you certainly can’t. :)

How Great Is Your Fear?

“You can run from your dreams in fear or run to your dreams with faith.”
~Tina Downey

What are your dreams?

Are you running towards them or are you dragging your feet?

Change is one of the more difficult concepts for most people and you may be surprised to learn that even positive change is hard for most of us.

That might be why so many people long to have a better life but make all the wrong decisions and take all the wrong actions.

Sometimes we worry, ‘What if it doesn’t work out for me?”

Perhaps we should ask this question instead, “What if it DOES work?”

Never be afraid to shoot for your dreams. Have faith that you will develop into the person necessary to accomplish your dreams and go for it.

The alternative is to always wonder what could have been.

Today…Not Someday

“Some people say “Someday, when I am somebody, I will do something.” But, I say “Today I’m going to do something so that I will be somebody”.

Nothing is going to happen unless we do something to move towards our goal. Wishing won’t make us successful. The key is to take action…not someday (someday may not come)…but today!

“Can’t” (An Inspirational Poem)

By Edgar Guest – 1916 – A Heap o’ Livin’

Can’t is the worst word that’s written or spoken;
Doing more harm here than slander and lies;
On it is many a strong spirit broken,
And with it many a good purpose dies.
It springs from the lips of the thoughtless each morning
And robs us of courage we need through the day;
It rings in our ears like a timely sent warning
And laughs when we falter and fall by the way.

Can’t is the father of feeble endeavor,
The parent of terror and halfhearted work;
It weakens the efforts of artisans clever,
And makes of the toiler an indolent shirk.
It poisons the soul of the man with a vision,
It stifles in infancy many a plan;
It greets honest toiling with open derision
And mocks at the hopes and the dreams of a man.

Can’t is a word none should speak without blushing;
To utter it should be a symbol of shame;
Ambition and courage it daily is crushing;
It blights a man’s purpose and shortens his aim.
Despise it with all of your hatred of error;
Refuse it the lodgement it seeks in your brain;
Arm against it as a creature of terror,
And all that you dream of you someday shall gain.

Can’t is the word that is foe to ambition
An enemy ambushed to shatter your will;
Its prey is forever the man with a mission
And bows but to courage and patience and skill.
Hate it, with hatred that’s deep and undying,
For once it is welcomed ’twill break any man;

Whatever the goal you are seeking, keep trying
And answer this demon by saying: “I can.”

Determination

My GDI team leader sent me this story today…And I just want to share. It is very inspirational…And if your fire is dying, I hope this story could help you renew it. :)

“A blind boy paid his way to a Master’s Degree at Northwestern University by taking notes on class lectures in braille, typing them, and selling copies to classmates who had stronger eyes but weak ambition.

One of the great mysteries of life is why some people who seem to have all the advantages-the right connections, education, and experience- never seem to amount to much while others who have had to struggle for everything they have reach incredible heights of success.

It hinges on determination; If you have the will to succeed, you will somehow find a way, regardless of the obstacles you encounter.

Do you use all of your assets to achieve your goals, or are you handicapped by your lack of ambition?

No other person can create in you a desire to succeed. With enough motivation, you will see things all around you that will help you reach your objectives, things that you may have overlooked many times before.”

My personal note, whatever it is your goal in life, do not give up. Keep going…and you’ll get there. :)

Doing Something

“Do something. Either lead, follow or get out of the way.” – Ted Turner

The first step is doing something, whatever it is. So what will you do?

Little By Little

“If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.”
~Mother Teresa

Have you ever been so overwhelmed with the enormity of a situation or challenge that you just gave up before you even got started?

I know I have.

That’s why I like this quote. It reminds us that we should do what we can and let the rest take care of itself.

Sure there are a ton of challenges we each will face. My advice is:

Get started.
Take care of those things that you can.
As you become more adept at things you will grow and be better equipped to handle and take care of more and more.

Good luck and get started!
